A POSSIBLE AND SENSIBLE RESOLUTION OF SENSITIVE MANDIR MASJID ISSUE

Probably, the Apex Court is proceeding very deliberately before pronouncing a verdict in ‘Mandir Masjid’ case as either way it will cause more pain than pleasure. While some questions are better unanswered, it is never wise to push the problems under the carpet. These only grow bigger there. It may not be good idea to labour finding answers to all questions in life, but reality, how so ever harsh, has to be confronted in face, better today than tomorrow. This row must end now.
I always wonder that if mosques and temples have created divide between societies and human beings, how these can unite us with the God. Whether we construct a temple or mosque or both, we are less likely to connect with the God here as most of the visitors will pride revelling and recounting the history of the place, as to what it was originally, when all, by whom all, what all got constructed here and how ultimately the site has been revenged to its original honour. However someone on the sidelines and much in the oblivion today will be conspiring for the perceived final revenge on a later date and when his time zone will be strong.
Secondly, there is always a time limit beyond which the decisions cannot be pended. A bad decision is far superior to indecision. A state of indecision causes mistrust, confusion and many a times irreparable loses of life and property. Time of reckoning has come. The statesmen must rise and shine. We cannot keep going back in history. How far back shall we go and no more, to pronounce a judgement that shall be legally tenable! Instead, look ahead and liberate from the shackles of past and decide without fear or favour of fundamentalists.
The chain of events and inordinate delay in resolving the issue has brought us to a turning point where construction of either a Mandir or Masjid will not resolve the dispute. It shall only be another link in the unending chain that may arrest the issue for now, only to resurface at the change of guard on a later date and time. Construction of both, a mandir and masjid at the same site adjacent or in close vicinity of each other may not be acceptable and potentially explosive. This brings us to the option of converting it into a place of public utility like educational institution, public library, sports complex or hospital.
An educational institution or a public library at such a site can get flushed with biased literature and sermons to subvert the young minds and provoke them into repeating the ugly past. Sports are rarely played in true sportsman spirit. We are no strangers to conduct of sports person on field during hockey and cricket matches with our neighbouring country and emotional outbursts of both the countrymen. These are wars sans bullets.

People of all ages, sex, castes, creed, classes and religions are closest to the god and truly remember Him when they are in trouble and pain. They never discriminate between mandir, masjid, gurudwara or church when they are sick and wounded. Hospitals are, therefore, the true ‘Sarvdharam Sthals’ where we demonstrate sincere allegiance and faith in the Supreme Authority and Power of God. It will thus be befitting to construct a world class multi super speciality hospital and research centre at the site in service of humanity. The Government should pledge to make it the top medical institution of the world that shall attract talent from all the countries. All religious institutions must contribute their might to alleviate the sufferings of mankind. This alone can then be a happy and sensible ending of the sordid dispute unless the statesmen can decide something better but fast.

Are You Data Driven!

Introduction   During survival training the commandoes are taught techniques to avoid starving when cut off from human habitats while operating in dense forests, unending deserts and snow-clad mountains due to enemy action. The basic principle is that human beings can consume everything that is eaten by mammals. Wild or unknown red-coloured fruits and plants that exude white juice should be considered poisonous and avoided. The commandoes are trained to catch and eat even snakes. The trick is to catch the snakes alive and remove their poisonous, rotten and harmful glands before killing them and preparing a delicious meal. Similarly, the data needs to be defanged before consuming, lest it dooms the user. It needs to be sifted, vetted, analysed and evaluated.   Information is power. Google’s mission statement is to “Organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”. The ever evolving technology makes it possible to compile and process infinite infor...

ART OF IGNORING

One day, when I was a Colonel and commanding a combat unit, I returned home very late for lunch. Although, physically back home for some food, my mind was still reeling with the stuff at work. I was unable to notice an old friend who had come on a surprise visit and was sitting in the lawn, chatting with my wife for the past two hours. He read my mind well and smiled. When my wife moved to the kitchen for laying the lunch, we got talking over the pre-lunch drinks.      My friend, also a senior colleague, explained that when we had joined the army twenty years back, as Second Lieutenants, ten men each were placed under our command. These men made one, two or three mistakes every day. The lapses were of simple nature like getting late for parade, untidy turnout, slouching or missing salutations. It was very intimate command. We noticed almost every lapse and were well trained to take corrective actions. Thus, at the end of the day, we were quite satisfied with...

MOTIVATIONAL MOTTOES

I was ten years old when I joined Sainik School during Jan 1967. It was a boarding school with military like environment and discipline; all very different from the carefree living with the siblings, in the cosy comfort of parental care at home. Here, one had to fend for everything. Early to rise, a cup of tea, followed by physical training, then bath and change into uniform akin to the army, thereafter march to the mess in squads for breakfast, from there march-on to the academics block for classes and march back to the mess for lunch. There was a short rest period post lunch followed by games parade.  In the evenings we again took bath, wore mess dress and observed combined study period. The day concluded with marching for dinner to the mess and back to the hostel, polishing shoes and washing small garments before going to the beds at lights out till reveille early next day morning. There were intermittent doses of instructions and moral lectures everyday to m...
